The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM)
is organising a workshop on ‘Flood Forecasting Management
in Mountainous Areas’ in Pokhara from 17 to 19 April
2006. Nepal, primarily a mountainous country lying in the
headwater areas of the Ganges River basin, suffers from recurrent
floods of flashy nature.

Advanced Training Course on ‘Integrated Watershed
Management’ (INWAMA) – (June – September,
2006)
Department of Geoinformatics of the University of
Jena, Germany is arranging a course on Integrated Watershed
Management (IWM) from June 5, 2006 to September 4, 2006 in
Kanpur, India; Beijing, China. This course is being organised
under the INWAMA which is an interdisciplinary Asian-European
partnership project, offering advanced synergetic master’s
level course in the field of Integrated Watershed Management
(IWM) to assist efforts directed alleviating poverty caused
by water scarcity and improving livelihoods.

World Water Forum (March 16 - 22, 2006)
In October 2003, the Board of Governors of the World
Water Council awarded the organization of the 4th World Water
Forum to Mexico.
The World Water Forum is an initiative of
the World Water Council that has the aim of raising the awareness
on water issues all over the world. As the main international
event on water, it seeks to enable multi-stakeholder participation
and dialogue to influence water policy making at a global
level, thus assuring better living standards for people all
over the world and a more responsible social behavior towards
water issues in-line with the pursuit of sustainable development.

Kuwait First International Water Conference
and Exhibition
Kuwait First International Water Conference and Exhibition
will be held in Kuwait 28-30 March 2006 at the Radisson SAS
Hotel. The conference will be an open forum for the discussion
of current water policies, research, projects, and water management

“Training of Facilitators
(ToF) Course on Online Learning in Water Management”
A Cap-Net – PoWER Collaboration
To better target the different training needs in
the field of water and environment and reach a wider audience
it is important to diversify training products. An option
is to develop online learning products. Online learning requires
new methods and techniques of facilitation and this training
course prepares participants for those new challenges. The
course is intended for experienced capacity builders representing
institutions that have the intention and the facilities to
run online training or education programmes on integrated
water resources management related subjects.
The course will be held in Bandung, Indonesia. The nine week
course will start from 17th October 2005 and will continue
till mid December.

Aquatech Asia 2005
Aquatech Asia 2005 is an international exhibition
and conference on water technology is the Southeast Asian
trade event for water technology and wastewater treatment.
During the exhibition the various products and services will
be on display, like water reclamation, membrane technology,
wastewater and sludge treatment, desalination, disinfection
technology, automated flood protection system, technologies
to keep canal and reservoir water pollutants-free, water treatment
in incineration plants. The event will be held in October
this year in Bangkok Thailand. Countries from allover Asia
will participate in this event.

11th World Lake Conference
Many lakes are subject to high levels of rapid population
growth, urbanization, industrialization, mining development,
growth of irrigated agriculture, and impacts of climate change.
These pressures have altered ecosystem processes and resulted
in several threats on the lakes including: loss of biodiversity,
over-fishing, eutrophication, proliferation of invasive weeds,
toxic contamination and over-abstraction of water.

Global Training for Trainers in Local
Water Management, Cairo – 30 April – 6 May
Cap-Net is organising in collaboration with IRC,
NRI, Streams, NBCBN and CEDARE a training of Trainers course
in Local Water Management. The rationale behind the course
is that communities and local authorities have considerable
roles in water resources management that will be affected
by changes in management systems and that they need to be
involved in planning and decision making. The objective of
the course is to empower local authorities in IWRM and therefore
the intention is to provide capacity builders with skills
and techniques in community management of water resources.

Water Symposium
The World Water Week in Stockholm is a leading
annual global meeting place for the world's diverse water
community. The World Water Week will be held in Stockholm
and the 15th Stockholm Water Symposium in the Stockholm City
Conference Centre, Barnhusgatan, located in the central city
on August 21–27, 2005. The World Water Week includes
the Stockholm Water Symposium, topical plenary sessions and
panel debates, scientific workshops, independently organized
seminars and side events, exhibitions and festive prize ceremonies.
Participants will include experts coming from more than 100
countries and representing the business, civil society, governmental,
inter-governmental, science and water management sectors.

The Third International
WOMEN AND WATER CONFERENCE
This conference will concentrate
on building relationships across the boundaries of culture
and geography. The conference will be held in Dehradun, India,
from February, 25-28, 2005. There will be presentations by
activists, workshops, skill development, and time to share
our networks and strategies. This conference is being sponsored
by CRABGRASS, a small San Francisco based organization working
globally and locally on environmental, social justice and
human rights issues.
This year the conference will focus on the
following objectives.
• To gather
women who are concerned about water;
• To disseminate what is known about water privatization
in India and elsewhere,
• To explore partnerships for cleaner, healthier, affordable
and more accessible water.
• To discuss and define how we can contribute to the
UN Millennium Development
• Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people
without access to safe drinking water and sanitation by 2015.

Asian Wetland Symposium, February
2005
The Asian Wetland Symposium is being held in Bhubaneswar,
Orissa, India from February 6 - 9, 2005. This Symposium will
provide an opportunity to explore and share innovative ways
and means for the management, conservation and sustainable
development of wetlands; this is the key to improving productivity
and people’s livelihood opportunities.Atleast, 25 Asian
countries have signed the Ramsar Convention. They meet triennially
at the Conference of Parties (CoP) to discuss primarily the
implementation of recommendations, resolutions and intergovernmental
plans of action. the Symposium is being organized by Ramsar
Center Japan in collaboration with Chilika Development Authority
and Department of Forest & Environment, Govt. of Orissa,

International Conference on Regional Cooperation on
Transboundary Rivers: Impact of the Indian River-Linking Project,
Dhaka, 17-19 December 2004
The purpose of this conference is to bring together experts
and activists from the South Asian region as well as from
other parts of the world in order to examine the impact of
the Indian River-linking Project from the point of view of
regional cooperation aimed at harnessing the water resources
of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna basin for mutual benefit
of the nations.
